Claire A's Story
Life
Married my life partner of 22 years (Pat) this past December (2004) and am very involved with my local community. I serve on a workforce development task force and am a business partner in a local, free, walk-in cyber cafe.
We have two labrador retrievers; one almost 14 and one almost 9. The older one, Saxon, is Pat's retired guide dog and the younger one, Raymond, is Pat's current guide dog.
School
Hardest thing to do was leave Brockton High in the middle of my senior year and move to Brighton. I missed so much of my "senior" year in some ways and I lost touch with most of my childhood friends.
Yet it also was a good move. I made new friends (became captain of the chess team even and soloed in the Christmas Pageant) and began to learn to adjust to new situations. It's something I've done ever since and it probably has helped me do they type of work I ...Expand for more
do.
College
Went to Northeastern University at night but worked there days for almost 7 years in Student Affairs. So I enjoyed a bit of college life by working closely with students and being an "honorary" member of student clubs. I socialized a lot with the Outing Club and remember many great weekends camping and hiking in northern NH at their lodge.
Workplace
I've worked for myself the past 25 years and evolved into computer tech support for non-profits and community technology centers. My background includes documentation (writing customer education materials), training, HR, and other management planning. I've worked for some big companies, including Gillette, Digital, IBM, Honeywell, Stone & Webster, but really enjoy working with the nonprofits that are helping people make a difference in their lives. They may not be as well known, but they do important work.
